Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Peterson Fine Arts.
The Wayne State College Mariachi Negro y Oro and String Ensembles will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, in the Peterson Fine Arts Building. Mariachi will perform in the Dr. Ray Kelton Instrumental Rehearsal Room, with the String Ensemble performance in Ramsey Theatre. Both performances are free and open to the public.

Mariachi repertoire includes traditional Mexican music created with a mix of instruments including trumpet, violin, vihuela, guitar, and guitarrón. The ensemble is directed by Dr. Josh Calkin, professor of music and director of bands at Wayne State.
Wayne State students and community members comprise the String Ensemble, directed by Kelly Coslet, adjunct instructor of music at Wayne State. Program repertoire features the bold and dramatic “Epic Adventure” by Kathryn Griesinger, and the stunningly passionate “Slane (Be Thou My Vision),” and mythological-inspired driving melodies of “Mythos” by Soon Hee Newbold.
