Brass Knuckles’ repertoire articulates vibrant sound layering in “Grand March” from “Aida” arranged by Walter H. Barnes and rich emotional grandeur in “Where’er You Walk” from “Semele” arranged by Walter H. Barnes. The quintet closes with the clever and nostalgic “This Old Man” arranged by Robert Nagel. Brass Knuckles is directed by Dr. Melissa Derechailo, an instructor of horn, music history, music theatre history, and music industry at Wayne State.

Selections from music’s Romantic period dominate the Trumpet Ensemble’s repertoire, including “Song of the Lark” by Felix Mendelssohn and “Hunters Chorus” from “Der Freischutz” by Carl Maria von Weber. The Trumpet Ensemble is directed by Michael Genslinger. The Low Brass Choir, directed by Dr. Josh Calkin, also performs. Calkin is director of bands at Wayne State.

The Percussion Ensemble’s repertoire overflows with high-energy charm. Selections include the delightful “Dance of the Wind-up Toy” by Chris Crockarell, the exuberant “Gino’s Playground” by Ed Argenziano, and the festive “Here Drums Santa Claus” arranged by Philip Gregory. Brad Weber, adjunct instructor of percussion, directs the Percussion Ensemble with Eric Snyder serving as guest conductor.
