The musical skill of several WSC students will be featured in the concert set for 7:30 p.m. in Ramsey Theatre. Admission is free and open to the public.
An eclectic medley of harmony and rhythm defines the Wayne State College Jazz Ensemble concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building. The concert is free and open to the public.

Repertoire highlights the musical skills of several Wayne State students, with special performances by Isaac Voboril of Pleasant Dale on baritone saxophone; Riley Gausman of Columbus on trumpet; Alex Casillas of Columbus on drums; Ryan Johnson of Doniphan on auxiliary percussion; Rachael Nuernberger of Wakefield on flugelhorn; Taylor O’Dell of McCook on alto saxophone; Cohan Pietz of Yankton, S.D., on tenor saxophone; and Mason Naderhoff of Lincoln on piano. The Jazz Ensemble is directed by Michael Genslinger, instructor of music at Wayne State.
Musical selections include the sizzling samba groove of “Coconut Champagne” by Denis Diblasio, made famous by legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson; the familiar jazz standard “My Funny Valentine” by Richard Rodgers; and the gospel inspired “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” arranged by Mathew Montgomery. The funk classic “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder is also featured, as well as swing and jazz ballad compositions by Gene Thorne.
