Dr. Josh Calkin presents “Inspired by Love: A Recital for Tuba Featuring Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Ley Theatre, located in the Brandenburg Building at Wayne State College. The faculty recital is free and open to the public.

Calkin is a professor of music and director of bands at Wayne State.
The concert incorporates piano accompaniment by Shelly Armstrong as well as prerecorded electronic accompaniment. Repertoire includes the lyrical and playful “Concerto for Bass Tuba” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; the peaceful harmony of “Mountain of the Cloistered Mind” by Joanna Ross Hersey; the inspirational “For the Love of Family” by Ian Lester; the emotional “Hello” by Evanescence; and the bold yet graceful musical tapestry of “Concerto no. 1” by Richard Strauss.
