The schedule is “From Earth to the Universe” and “Laser 60s” on Friday, and “The Lincoln Almanac Trial” and “Laser Zeppelin” on Saturday.
Wayne State College’s free planetarium and laser shows continue Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27-28, in the Fred G. Dale Planetarium. Admission is free and open to the public, but free-will donations are accepted.
On Friday, Sept. 27, the planetarium show “From Earth to the Universe” will be at 7 p.m., followed by the laser show “Laser 60s” at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, the planetarium show “The Lincoln Almanac Trial” is at 1 p.m., followed by the laser show “Laser Zeppelin” at 2 p.m.
The night sky, both beautiful and mysterious, has been the subject of campfire stories, ancient myths and awe for as long as there have been people. A desire to comprehend the universe may well be humanity’s oldest shared intellectual experience. Yet only recently have we truly begun to grasp our place in the vast cosmos. Audience members will learn much more in “From Earth to the Universe.”
The planetarium is located on the lowest level of Wayne State’s Carhart Science Building. Guests should use the southwest doors to enter. Once inside, go to the stairs at the south end of the building and go down to the lowest level. You may also take the elevator. Carhart Science and the planetarium are handicap accessible.
Doors open 20 minutes prior to the start of a show and shows generally include a tour of the current night sky, how to find the constellations, and current events in astronomy.
All shows last about 45 minutes. Those wanting to book a private planetarium show should visit www.wsc.edu/planetarium and click “Contact the Planetarium” to complete the online reservation form.
The shows will cycle through the planetarium’s vast library of shows, and each planetarium show will be followed by a laser show.
