About the Family and Consumer Sciences Education degree program
Wayne State College’s Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences Education prepares future educators to teach essential life skills in middle and high school settings. The program integrates coursework in nutrition, culinary arts, child development, family relations, consumer economics, housing and interior design, and textiles with professional teacher preparation.
Students gain hands-on experience in lab-based learning environments and complete supervised field experiences and student teaching placements. The curriculum emphasizes practical application, instructional strategies, and inclusive classroom practices to support diverse learners.
Graduates are prepared for teacher certification in Family and Consumer Sciences and are equipped to lead programs that promote financial literacy, healthy living, career readiness, and strong family and community engagement.
