About the Family and Consumer Sciences degree program

Wayne State College’s Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) program prepares students for careers that support individuals, families, and communities through education, advocacy, and applied life skills. The program blends coursework in human development, family studies, nutrition, and consumer sciences to provide a well-rounded, practical foundation.

Students can tailor their degree through concentrations in Foods and Nutrition or Family and Consumer Sciences, allowing them to align their studies with career goals in nutrition, wellness, and human services fields.

The Foods and Nutrition concentration focuses on nutrition, food, and healthy living, preparing students for careers in nutrition-related fields or for graduate study in nutrition and other health-related programs.

The Family and Consumer Sciences concentration provides a broad, interdisciplinary foundation focused on individuals, families, and communities. Coursework explores areas such as family and human development, consumer decision-making, housing and living environments, apparel and textiles, and nutrition.

This pathway prepares students for careers in human services, community-based organizations, and related fields, while also supporting continued study in family and consumer sciences and related disciplines.

Graduates of Wayne State’s FCS program are well-prepared for careers in nutrition, human services, and community-focused professions, as well as for advanced study in related fields.
