About the Social Sciences degree program

Wayne State College’s Social Sciences program provides an interdisciplinary foundation for understanding human behavior, societies, and global systems. Students develop skills in research, analysis, and critical thinking while exploring how social, political, and geographic forces shape the world.

The program offers three concentrations to align with students’ interests and career goals. The Geography concentration focuses on spatial analysis, environmental systems, and the relationships between people and place. The History concentration emphasizes historical research, interpretation, and an understanding of past events and their impact on the present. The Political Science concentration explores government systems, public policy, and political theory, preparing students for careers in public service, law, or civic leadership.

Across all areas, students gain practical experience through research projects, internships, and coursework designed to build strong communication and analytical skills applicable to a wide range of careers and graduate programs.
