Before joining the faculty at Wayne State College, Engel was a high school science teacher and coach in Randolph, Neb., for 22 years. During that time, he taught numerous science, math, and physical education courses and served as a coach for many different sports.

Engel’s areas of interest in education include teacher recruitment and retention, and the use of A.I. in education. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in education in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in STEM education from the University of South Dakota.

Engel is excited to return to campus as a faculty member after attending Wayne State where he met his wife, Melissa (Kalin ’02), who is currently a loan officer at the bank in Randolph. The Engels have two children, and they enjoy travelling to new places and attending games and participating in sports.
