Dr. Joe Blankenau is a political science professor at Wayne State College. Over the years, he has had several journal articles published and was a co-guest editor of the special edition of Great Plains Research in the Fall of 2021. In 2002, he received the Theodore Lowi Award from the Policy Studies Organization in Washington, D.C., for an article comparing health policy development in Canada and the United States.

In 2011-12, and in 2017-18, he was WSC Student Senate Professor of the Year. He received the State Nebraska Bank and Trust Teaching Excellence Award in 2016.

Blankenau teaches a wide range of course including political theory, American and world politics, public administration, political institutions, and state/local government. His research interests have primarily focused on health and environmental politics and policy, often with a focus on Nebraska.
