Joshua Piersanti, MFA

Joshua Piersanti is an art professor and teaches graphic, web, and interaction design at Wayne State College. Before coming to WSC, Piersanti taught at Indiana University at Kokomo. His recent work has included exploring the use of digital tools for critiques in art and design, developing web and print guides for WSC's extensive Campus Art Collection, and facilitating Service-Learning projects that benefit students, the college, and the community. Piersanti received the Graphis Gold award in 2015 for work included in the Graphis Social and Political Posters Collection. The poster was entitled "Indian Ocean Tsunami 2004."

During his master's research, Piersanti's studies included on-screen readability and developing digital interactive tools for design instruction. At Ohio State his focus was an even mix between human factors and graphic/interaction design. His studies included research into on-screen readability and developing digital interactive tools for design instruction.

Teaching Philosophy
“As a teacher, I’ve learned to take a mentoring approach to helping my students to learn and to grow, going the extra mile to help students reach their goals. I encourage every student to focus on the people who will use what they design. It’s good for a designer to love his or her own design, but great designers always keep in mind the end user’s perspective and interests. This idea permeates the design process that I use and that I teach to my students: by combining a thorough knowledge of graphic design and a focus on the actual humans who will use our work, we can create valuable and useful designs that make life simpler.”
