Lori Newcomb, Ph.D.
Professor
Dr. Lori Newcomb is an English professor and has taught literature and English education classes at Wayne State College since 2008.
Before coming to teach at WSC, she taught high school English at two schools in Northeast Nebraska and was a teaching assistant (at WSC and the University of South Dakota) and interim faculty (at WSC) while in graduate school. She incorporates service learning into her courses and has observed multiple students in their clinical practice semester in various schools in eastern Nebraska.
Newcomb has given several paper presentations at national and international conferences. She has presented on topics such as the films of Clint Eastwood, the war novels of Tim O’Brien, and the travel writings of Olaudah Equiano. She was awarded Sigma Tau Delta's Outstanding Service award in 2011 and the Balsley-Whitmore award for teaching in 2013.
Newcomb's teaching and research interests include gender studies, film studies, the works of Paul Auster and Olaudah Equiano, and language arts education.
