Dr. Lori Cummings is an English professor and has taught literature and English education classes at Wayne State College since 2008.

Before coming to WSC, she taught high school English in two schools in Northeast Nebraska. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wayne State and her doctorate in American literature from the University of South Dakota. While at WSC, she has incorporated service-learning into her courses and has observed multiple students in their clinical practice semesters in various schools in eastern Nebraska. She also serves as the advisor for WSC’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the national English honorary society.

Cummings has given several paper presentations at national and international conferences. She was awarded Sigma Tau Delta's Outstanding Service award in 2011 and the Balsley-Whitmore award for teaching in 2013, 2018, and 2022. Her research interests include the modern and postmodern American novel, film studies, the works of Paul Auster, and English language arts pedagogy.
