Tim Hurley

Tim Hurley never played football until he came to Wayne State. A 6-2, 210-pound defensive end walk-on from Omaha Rummel High School, Hurley turned into one of Wayne State’s all-time sacks leaders while earning All-District and All-Conference honors and finished his career as an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. Hurley was a three-year letter winner at Wayne State (1977, 1978, and 1979) and finished his WSC career tied for second in career sacks with 30. In 1977, Hurley ranked third on team in tackles (87) and had nine sacks and five fumble recoveries. He was NAIA All-District 11, Second Team All-CSIC, and Second Team All-Nebraska by the Omaha World-Herald in 1978 after recording a team-high 11 sacks with 73 tackles (third on the team) with three recoveries. As a senior in 1979, Hurley had 10 sacks in just nine games and ranked fifth on the team with 78 tackles. He had two fumble recoveries and was named NAIA All-District 11, Second Team All-CSIC, and NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. He and his wife Laura currently reside in Grand Island, Neb., where he works as an account executive with FDC Publishing of the Midwest. Hurley was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 7, 2017.
