Mark Vollmer, a Wisner, Neb., graduate, was a two-time All-American triple jumper at Wayne State during his Wildcat career from 1984 to 1988. At the time of his induction in 2011, he held both school records, 48 feet, 4-1/2 inches (indoors), and 48 feet, 11 inches (outdoors), both coming in the 1988 season despite competing with back problems during his career. Vollmer was sixth in the triple jump at the 1985 NAIA Indoor National meet at 47 feet, 9 inhces, and was fifth as a senior in the 1988 NAIA Indoor National meet at 47 feet, 7-1/2 inches. Vollmer was a one-time school record holder in the javelin and is married to former Wayne High and Wayne State standout athlete Missy Stoltenberg, whose fahter Del was a long-time football coach at Wayne State and a 2006 inductee into the WSC Athletic Hall of Fame. Vollmer was inducted into the WSC Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 8, 2011.
