Mike Riedmann attended Wayne State from 1971 to 1976 and participated in wrestling and football. Riedmann came to Wayne State never having played football before. He was asked to walk on as a linebacker candidate in his sophomore year. As a senior at Wayne State College, Riedmann was the captain of the football team, voted NAIA All-Conference, All-District, and National Honorable Mention at linebacker. Riedmann is best known for his ability as a wrestler in the 190-pound class. In 1976, the Wildcat squad won both the conference and district tournaments and set a record for the most dual wins in one season, including two shutouts and a win over the University of Nebraska-Omaha. In 1975 and 1976 he was the captain of the wrestling squad. In 1976, Riedmann tied the record for most wins in a single season and was second in the NAIA national tournament. In addition to the football honors, he won the 1975-76 NAIA District Championships in wrestling, was a NAIA All-American in 1976, and was voted the most valuable wrestler at Wayne State. Riedmann gained additional national recognition as a member of the AAU-NAIA All-Star wrestling squad, which toured Japan and Korea during the summer of 1976. Riedmann graduated from Wayne State in 1976 and was named the Omaha World-Herald Nebraska College Athlete of the Year. Riedmann currently serves on the executive committee of the Wayne State College Foundation and is president of NP Dodge Real Estate Sales Company in Omaha. Riedmann was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 11, 1980.
