LeRoy Simpson was a coach at Wayne State from 1968 to 1997. He started the women's track program at WSC and coached track and field and cross country and was assistant football coach for three years. He was also a professor in the Human Performance and Leisure Studies Division at WSC. In his nearly 30-year tenure, Simpson had three All-Americans in men's track and 11 All-Americans in women's track and won one cross country conference championship. Simpson and his wife Marian could always be found helping at many track and field events. LeRoy was the honorary referee for the 1997 Sioux City Relays. Simpson retired from WSC in 1997 and, at the time of this writing, resides in Woodland Park, Colo. Simpson was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 17, 2001.
