Duane Wehrer was a standout baseball player at Wayne State from 1962 to 1965, earning NAIA All-American honors in 1965 after hitting .404 (17 for 42). Wehrer also finished second in the nation in RBIs in 1965. He was the team MVP in 1965 and helped lead the Wildcats to Nebraska College Conference titles in 1964 and 1965 along with a share of the 1963 title. He also lead the team in hitting in 1963 with a .348 (15 for 43) batting average. Duane was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 17, 1981.
