Dr. Robert Benthack was a longtime physician in Wayne who provided medical services for the WSC athletic program from 1949 to 1985. He served as the school's team physician from 1965 to 1992. Benthack was a trustee of the Wayne State Foundation and received the college's Distinguished Service Award in 1993. He earned his medical degree from the Nebraska College of Medicine in 1947. In 1949, Benthack began practicing in Wayne with his father, Dr. Walter Benthack. He was also a Korean War veteran. Benthack, who passed away March 25, 1994, was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame in the fall of 1995.
