Dan Gardner

Dan Gardner was one of the prime moving forces in the Second Guessers organization. A 1948 graduate of Syracuse University, Gardner was a longtime Wayne State Foundation trustee. The former Wayne State Foundation president and benefactor was tireless in his efforts to promote and further the programs and outreach of the college Foundation, community, and region. Gardner and his wife Jeanne were an integral part of the success of WSC's first national capital campaign "Building Bright Futures," by providing a $1.5-million leadership gift. In appreciation of the Gardners' generous support of Wayne State College, the Daniel W. and Jeanne M. Gardner Business Building on campus was named in their honor. Those who knew Gardner never doubted that one of his passions was athletics, and his generosity was evident in the Gardner Foundation's endowed scholarship program for athletic scholarships at Wayne State College. Gardner passed away Jan. 19, 2001. Gardner was inducted into the WSC Athletics Hall of Fame on Feb. 3, 1979.
