Wind Ensemble performs at the Nebraska State

Bandmasters Convention

photoIn March, the WSC Wind Ensemble was selected to provide the opening concert for the convention of the Nebraska State Bandmasters. This organization is composed of band directors from across the state and was marvelous opportunity to showcase the talents of WSC students.

Alumni Band and Choir Day

In February, the Department of Music hosted an event for all WSC alumni who have performed with the bands or choirs.  Dr. Cornell Runestad (faculty emeritus) returned to conduct an alumni choir and Dr. Gary Davis returned to conduct an alumni band. The event attracted alumni from as far as New York and Arizona; as well as many points in between. This was a great opportunity for current and former WSC students and faculty to mingle, renew connections and perform together.

Concert held in Wayne and New York City

In May of 2012, there was a concert held in Wayne Nebraska that was also being held in New York City. The guest artist was playing on his piano in New York, while the keys of the piano on stage in Ramsey Theater played. This was the beginning of a series of concerts provided to Wayne State College, as they are beta testers with Yamaha on their new disklavier pianos.

WSC Department of Music

The Department of Music prepares students to:

  • Teach music at all levels in the schools
  • Foster the development of musical talent
  • Provide rich musical experiences for all students
  • Contribute to the musical life of the college, community and state.

Students may pursue a bachelor's degree with a Field or Subject Endorsement in Music Education, a major in Music with a concentration in performance, or a concentration in Music Industry. The Music Education and Music Industry programs are career-oriented and provide a solid foundation for success in their respective fields. The Concentration in Music Education and the Minor in Music are optional areas of study for students pursuing other majors.

In Addition to this, the Department of Music faculty maintains active performing, teaching, and lecture schedules. They appear regularly throughout the region as clinicians, recitalists, guest conductors, and adjudicators. The voice faculty are members of the National Association for Teachers of Singing, the National Association for Music Education (formerly MENC), the Music Teachers National Association, the College Music Society, and the American Choral Directors Association.
