The Department of Music prepares students to teach music at all levels in the schools, to foster the development of musical talent, to provide rich musical experiences for all students, and to contribute to the musical life of the college, community and state.
Students may pursue a bachelor's degree with a Field or Subject Endorsement in Music Education, a major in Music with a concentration in performance, or a concentration in Music Industry. The Music Education and Music Industry programs are career-oriented and provide a solid foundation for success in their respective fields. The Concentration in Music Education and the Minor in Music are optional areas of study for students pursuing other majors.
In Addition to this, the Department of Music Faculty maintains active performing, teaching, and lecture schedules. They appear regularly throughout the region as clinicians, recitalists, guest conductors, and adjudicators. The voice faculty are members of the National Association for Teachers of Singing, the National Association for Music Education (formerly MENC), the Music Teachers National Association, the College Music Society, and the American Choral Directors Association.
