Wayne State College is committed to providing a safe learning, working, and living environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Our Campus Security officers patrol the campus on foot, on bicycle, and in a marked security vehicle. Campus Security officers provide a visible deterrent and active response to criminal activity. The Campus Security Department also responds to all emergencies on campus. It is recommended that you enter their phone number in your cellphone as a speed dial number.

Safety services, resources, and information

In order to maintain a safe and secure environment, we enlist the help of all campus community members through community policing. WSC Campus Security believes that a community committed to the prevention of crime promotes the safest possible environment. That's why our focus is on crime prevention and overall safety. Wayne State College offers a variety of resources and services to accomplish this.

Personal safety

  • The lost and found is located within the Campus Security Office in the Campus Services Building at 704 Lindahl Drive (north of the hospital). Anyone finding a lost article on campus is encouraged to immediately take the item to the lost and found.

    The item will be tagged and dated. Anyone who has lost anything on campus should contact Campus Security at 402-375-7216 to report or claim the lost item. Articles not claimed by the owners within two years become the property of the individual who found it, or, if not claimed, donated to charity. Property may be reclaimed between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. Monday through Friday.

  • Safety escorts are available to campus members and visitors. A Campus Security officer or campus safety patrol personnel will accompany pedestrians on campus property during nighttime hours or anytime a person is apprehensive about walking alone.

  • The college has a responsibility to respond to reports of sexual violence or sex harassment and attend to the needs of the students who are involved. Reports are taken with the utmost seriousness, and the student will be promptly referred to the appropriate persons or resources for assistance.

  • Wayne State offers several resources to help you navigate challenges and make the most of your time at WSC. Licensed counselors at Wayne State College provide support, outreach, and education for many issues, including self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and alcohol and drug-related concerns.

  • WSC Student Health Services offers medical consultation and treatment. Minor illnesses or injuries are treated and referral is made when necessary.

  • If you have locked your keys in your car or have a flat tire, Campus Security can help. We can unlock your car and air up your tire.

    Campus Security reserves the right to decline unlocking a vehicle.

  • Wildcat Wheels provides free safe rides within Wayne city limits to WSC students and their guests. The service runs from 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Thursday through Saturday during the fall and spring semesters. No food runs after 12:30 a.m.

Campus safety

  • In case of any accident on campus involving personal injuries or property damage, WSC Campus Security should be contacted at 402-375-7216 as soon as possible.

    An incident/accident report must be completed for any student accident involving personal injury or property damage. Campus Security will assist in seeking appropriate medical attention as needed.

  • Alcohol and drugs
    In accordance with the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Campuses Act (34 CFR Part 86), our alcohol and drug policy outlines the standards of conduct expected of Wayne State College students regarding the unlawful use of drugs or alcohol on college property or in any college-sponsored activity.

    WSC restricts smoking and vaping on campus, with the exception of designated outdoor areas as designated on the tobacco use map. Smoking is prohibited in all indoor areas.

  • The CARE Team is a cross-campus team, designed to identify and engage in situations where individuals appear distressed, disruptive, or disturbed. Learn the signs of when a student is in distress, when to refer them for help, and when to report a student of concern.

  • The college uses several channels of communication to notify students, employees, and the general public about campus delays and closures due to severe weather, emergencies, or maintenance situations. Emergency notifications may include, but are not limited to, weather alerts, school closings, fire, or criminal activity.

  • A full-time crime prevention officer presents programs to educate, inform, and encourage all members of the college community to practice crime prevention techniques. Programs and presentations are scheduled annually and are also available upon request.

  • In compliance with federal law, Wayne State College prepares an annual report on campus safety and security to disclose information about crime on campus and the surrounding community. This law is known as the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.

  • All motorized vehicles operated on campus must be registered and have a valid parking permit, properly displayed, to park on the Wayne State College campus. In addition, all motorized vehicles are required by state law to be registered either in the State of Nebraska or the vehicle owner’s state of record.

  • Hall and room security
    All residence halls require electronic access using a student ID card. Students living on campus use their ID cards to gain access to their assigned residence hall as well as other halls on campus during limited times.

    Each student also receives a room key for accessing their dorm room. Students locked out of their room may ask a staff member to unlock the door.

  • The Wayne State College campus is a weapons-free zone. WSC prohibits all persons who enter College property from carrying, possessing, or using firearms, fireworks, explosives, or any lethal weapon on campus or any type of item designed to cause injury or death regardless of whether the person is licensed to carry the weapon or not.

    Only certified law enforcement officials who have the appropriate approval will be allowed to carry a weapon. Concealed weapons are not permitted at the College, in buildings, on the grounds, other WSC property, or at WSC activities.

    Students who possess a weapon on WSC property are in violation of this policy and may be subject to disciplinary actions up to and including suspension. Any violator may also be reported to law enforcement officials to face the possibility of criminal prosecution.

    If it is necessary to bring such items with you to Wayne State for sport or club activities that occur off campus, make arrangements with someone off campus to store these items for you.

Online reports are sumbmitted to the Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation (CARE) Team for review. If this is an emergency, please call 911 or campus security at 402-375-7216.

Report a Title IX violation

Options for reporting Title IX violations include filing a report with the college, which can be done anonymously, and/or with law enforcement. Reports can be filed by the alleged victim or a third party who is aware of allegations of sexual violence or sex harassment, including other students or college employees.
