Weather Emergencies and Hazards

Snow and Winter Weather

Snow and ice are a fact of life of winter in Northeast Nebraska. At some point during your time as a student or staff or faculty member, snow and ice will affect operations of the college. In the event that winter weather becomes severe enough to directly affect the safety of our community, the college will notify you via the text message alert system, your college email account, and messages on the college website and the college's Facebook and Twitter pages.

Winter weather can result in delays of class start times, cancellation of events or classes, or closure of the campus. In all instances, each member of the campus community is urged to exercise caution traveling to and from campus. Should weather conditions pose a significant hazard to you, please contact your professor or supervisor immediately to discuss your situation.

Campus Closure

In the event of a major snow storm causing significant accumulation of snow causing disruption of normal college function for Wayne State College Campus, the College President and/or his delegate will make a determination as to close campus for a period of time to allow for support staff to report for work duties and return campus to a normal functioning state.

  • Closure options include: Closed for the day and evening; closed for the evening beginning at 5 p.m.
  • Tune to a local radio or TV station for closure information and check the Wayne State College website for current notifications for closure information.
