About the Pre-Osteopathic Medicine Program

Osteopathic medicine focuses on diagnoses of disease and illness and evaluation of injury. It uses drugs, surgery, and modern technology for treatment. Osteopathic doctors work in hospitals, clinics, research labs, and pharmaceutical companies. You’ll need an bachelor’s degree to start your path toward an osteopathic medical degree, which you’ll get at Wayne State. Recommended programs include the Biology or Chemistry Pre-Osteopathic Medicine degree tracks to receive a solid foundation in the life or physical sciences. After graduating from WSC, you’ll be ready to move on to coursework at a professional osteopathic medical school. Wayne State now has a 3+1 partnership with Kansas City University, where you can complete your bachelor's degree in either Biology or Chemistry by spending three years at WSC and one year at KCU. Your year at KCU also counts as your first year of graduate school, so you can earn your bachelor's degree and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in seven years instead of eight.

Degrees offered: This program is set up so you will receive a B.S. at WSC, then be ready to continue with graduate work at a professional school for osteopathic medicine. 

Accelerated 3+1 program with Kansas City University: This program option is set up so you can receive your B.S. in Biology or Chemistry from WSC. After completing your undergraduate coursework, you'll continue and complete your Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine at KCU.
