Some majors require an internship for graduation, while others strongly encourage them. Students should review program requirements with their advisor. Even when not required, internships provide valuable real-world experience, professional networking, and skill development. This experience can make you more competitive when applying for jobs after graduation.
Career fairs allow students to connect with employers, learn about different industries, and explore job and internship opportunities.
To prepare:
- Research employers attending the event
- Bring copies of your resume
- Dress professionally
- Practice a brief introduction or elevator pitch
- Prepare questions for employers
You can learn more preparation tips on our Career Events page.
Real student experiences
From tutoring and advising to internships and career preparation, students across campus are finding support through the Academic & Career Success Center.
Tutoring has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my college journey. I first visited the center for help with Chemistry, and my tutor had such a profound impact on me that I wanted to do the same for others. Now, as a tutor, I get to see students grow in their confidence and abilities, and that’s an amazing feeling. It’s not just about helping them succeed, but also about discovering how much I’ve grown in the process.
