By Camille Voorhees.

“Change is the only constant in life.” This quote by ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus underscores Camille Voorhees’ artistry. Her works explore the renewal of destruction and the vitality of transformational growth.

"Estuaries" by Camille Voorhees opens Thursday, Aug. 29, in the Nordstrand Visual Arts Gallery at Wayne State College. An opening reception is set for 4:30 p.m. in the gallery with an artist’s talk from 3:45-4:15 p.m. in Gardner Auditorium. The events are free and open to the public. The show runs through Sept. 26.

Voorhees earned her BFA from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and her MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her works have been exhibited throughout Nebraska, and in Iowa, Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Texas, Georgia, Egypt, and Turkey. Voorhees currently serves as an adjunct instructor for the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Her technique draws on the principles of printmaking, book arts, and textile arts.

Gallery director Dr. Andy Haslit, assistant professor of art history, curates the exhibit. The gallery is open 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, and 3-7 p.m. Sunday. It is closed Saturday. Shows end at noon on closing day. For more information on this exhibit or upcoming shows, visit the Nordstrand gallery page or contact Dr. Haslit at 402-375-7031.
