The Wayne State College choirs have not performed before a live audience since February 2020. To honor the audience and choir connection, An Evening of Choirs presents a concert steeped in sentiment and jubilation Monday, Nov. 15, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, Neb. The 7:30 p.m. performance is free and open to the public.

The WSC concert choir, women’s choir, and chamber choir are conducted by Dr. Matthew Armstrong. Shelly Armstrong, staff accompanist, serves as collaborative pianist. Vocal soloists include Sarah Wibben of Wayne, Neb.; Felicity Suelter of Lincoln, Neb.; Addie Wood of Dow City, Iowa; Martina Braunsroth of Wahoo, Neb.; Kiernan Baker of Seward, Neb.; Dalton Rath of Randolph, Neb.; Lexie Jackson of Mitchell, Neb.; Libby Aschoff of David City, Neb.; Daniel Oldenkamp of Sioux City, Iowa; and Abbie Bloom of Laurel, Neb.

"In Meeting We Are Blessed" truly celebrates the choir/audience reunion. “We are met together and in meeting we are blessed. Peace in coming and in going, peace in labor and in rest…friendship endures!” declares the text by R. Gatsnahos. The African rhythmic feel is emphasized with Kaylee Moe of Homer, Neb., and Shelly Armstrong playing djembes.

The concert choir also debuts the premiere of "Let All the World in Every Corner Sing!" by Matthew and Shelly Armstrong, with text by George Herbert. The women’s choir presents "Music, Spread Thy Voice Around" by George Frederic Handel and "The Voice," a selection made popular by the female ensemble Celtic Woman. Repertoire for the chamber choir includes "The Word Was God," a spiritual by Rosephanye Powell, and music theater selections from "In the Heights" by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Bravo by Steven James Schmidt.
