Disease Prevention
In addition to a flu vaccine, you can stop the spread of influenza by following some basic steps.
Practice good hand hygiene:
- Wash hands often with soap and water
- Use hand sanitizer (available for public areas from WSC Central Supply)
- Don’t touch eyes, nose or mouth with your hands
Practice good cough/sneeze hygiene:
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing with tissue; or use your elbow/shoulder instead of your hands if you have no tissue
- Wash hands with soap/water or use hand sanitizer immediately after coughing or sneezing
Practice good workplace hygiene:
- Frequently clean commonly-used surfaces that have multiple users such as doorknobs, countertops, shared computer keyboards, etc. (supplies available for public areas from WSC Central Supply)
- Stay home if you have a fever of 100 or more AND cough or sore throat
Educate yourself on influenza, how it is spread and how you can reduce your risks:
- Read the Wayne State College regular email updates that will be coming to your email account
- Talk to your personal healthcare provider if you have specific questions
- Monitor your own health by checking for fever or other symptoms
