The family event at St. Mary's Catholic School in Wayne featured exercises created and facilitated by Wayne State students.
Approximately 40 students from Wayne’s St. Mary’s Catholic School participated in Wayne State College’s Family Math, Science, and Art Night held April 9 at the school.
The event, sponsored by Wayne State’s Service-Learning Program, featured several STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) exercises for the elementary school students.
Many Wayne State Service-Learning students served as instructors for the numerous exercises, activities, and projects. Dr. Mary Kuchta, associate professor of mathematics at Wayne State, and her students enrolled in math for elementary school teachers created the exercises for the elementary school students.
Family Math, Science, and Art Night was held in conjunction with Wayne State’s Service-Learning Program, which began in 1999. Each year, hundreds of Wayne State students make a difference in the community by participating in Service-Learning projects, contributing nearly $250,000 to the region in community service.
