The scheduled shows are “STARS” and “Laser Fun” on Friday, April 19, and “Astronaut” and “Laser Beatles” on Saturday, April 20.

Learn about the awesome beauty and destructive power of stars and find out what it takes to be an astronaut during Wayne State College’s free planetarium and laser shows Friday and Saturday, April 19-20, in the Fred G. Dale Planetarium. Admission is free and open to the public, but free-will donations are accepted.

On Friday, April 19, the planetarium show “STARS” will be at 7 p.m., followed by the laser show “Laser Fun” at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, April 20, the planetarium show “Astronaut” will be at 1 p.m., followed by the laser show “Laser Beatles” at 2 p.m.

In “STARS,” the audience will journey to the farthest reaches of the galaxy and experience both the beauty and destructive power of stars. This show focuses on the lives of stars, how they are born, how they die, and how the human understanding of stars has changed over time.

In “Astronaut,” the audience will discover what it takes to become an astronaut. Experience a rocket launch from inside the body of an astronaut, explore the amazing worlds of inner and outer space, and float around the International Space Station.

The planetarium is located on the lowest level of Wayne State’s Carhart Science Building. Guests should use the southwest doors to enter. Once inside, go to the stairs at the south end of the building and go down to the lowest level. You may also take the elevator. Carhart Science and the planetarium are handicap accessible.

Doors open 20 minutes prior to the start of a show and shows generally include a tour of the current night sky, a view of the constellations, and a full dome video.

All shows last about 45 minutes. Those wanting to book a private planetarium show should visit www.wsc.edu/planetarium and click “Contact the Planetarium” to complete the online reservation form.
