Homecoming 2017 "Pride on the Prowl" will feature alumni banquets, affinity reunions, Wildcat athletics, a parade and Band Day, and many other events for both students and alumni.

Wayne State College will host its 2017 Homecoming “Pride on the Prowl” festivities Oct. 2-7, 2017, on the WSC campus. 

A Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting will be held for the Conn Library on Friday, with the grand opening taking place from 3 to 5 p.m. and ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. The WSC Faculty Art Show will also take place from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Nordstrand Visual Arts Gallery in the library. Also on Friday, visitors are invited to tour the newly renovated Bowen Hall during the Bowen Hall Open House from 3 to 5 p.m. 

The Outstanding Alumni Awards Banquet will take place Friday, honoring an alumnus from each of the four schools at WSC. Recipients include Merle Larson ’59 (School of Arts and Humanities), Danelle J. Smith ’98 (School of Business and Technology), Dr. Bob Uhing, MSE ’86 and ’88, Ed.S. ‘91 (School of Education and Counseling), and Diane Sabatka-Rine ’84 (School of Natural and Social Sciences). 

The Homecoming and Hall of Fame Banquet will take place Saturday. Three athletes, one contributor, and one team will be inducted into the Wayne State College Hall of Fame. Inductees include Ashley Arlen ’12 (women’s basketball), Tim Hurley ’79 (football), Troy Pribnow ’09 (football), Curt Frye (contributor), and the 2006 women’s cross country team. Also during this event, Kam Reeves ’79 will be honored with the 2017 Alumni Service Award.

Several affinity reunions will be held during Homecoming, including a Carhart Alumni Reunion from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Resident Assistant Reunion Brunch from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, the 20th Anniversary WSC PRIDE Brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, and GOLD Club Tailgate from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Honored classes this year include the Classes of ’67 and ’77 for their 50- and 40-year reunions. 

The Wildcats will take on Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday during the annual Homecoming football game at 1 p.m. The women’s soccer team will also play Minnesota State on Friday at 2 p.m. on the soccer field. 
Student events throughout the week will feature hypnotist Josh McVicker at 9 p.m. Monday, Open Mic Night at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nearly Naked Mile at 7 p.m. Wednesday, a Mr. WSC Pageant at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, and Homecoming Coronation at 8:30 p.m. Friday, among other activities throughout the week. 

Don’t miss the Homecoming Parade and Band Day on Saturday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. Visitors can also enjoy WSC students displaying expressions of music, art, language, and literature during the annual ArtsWalk on Wednesday and Thursday. The Willy Olympics will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday, followed by Greek Olympics at 5 p.m. Friday. Two planetarium shows will be featured Friday and Saturday.

Scholarship donors and recipients will be invited to a Scholarship Luncheon on Thursday. Also that day, there will be a WSC Alumni Employee Appreciation Social beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Kanter Student Center Atrium.
