A one-day conference for FCS students and teachers to learn more about leadership and careers in family and consumer sciences.

This conference is intended for FCS teachers and high school students who are interested in careers in the family and consumer sciences.

Cost: $12. Includes lunch in the WSC cafeteria

Note: Each school is limited to 12 high school students and 1-2 adults. Total capacity is 200.

Conference agenda:

Keynote speaker: Brandi Settje, Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Leadership and career breakout sessions: child life specialist, K-6 school counselor, registered dietitian, probation officer, social worker, certified dietary manager, college panel, FCCLA groups, early childhood intervention, costume design, architect, FCS education, UNMC College of Nursing, WSC Admissions, WSC Career Services, and a few more! 

Competitive knowledge tests: categories include child development and early childhood education, fashion design and clothing, FCS comprehensive, food and nutrition, interior design and housing, and resource management.

  • no extra cost for test takers
  • each school can register two students for each test category
  • each student may only be registered for one test
  • each school with competitors will receive a plaque
  • each competitor will receive a certificate, top three receive medals

Tours: A tour of the newly renovated Benthack Hall (home of the WSC's family and consumer sciences programs), and campus tours are available.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled and all registrations will be refunded.
