The Peking Acrobats

The Peking Acrobats bring their highly acclaimed performance to Ramsey Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10.

Acclaimed as the finest Chinese acrobatic troupe in the world, The Peking Acrobats will defy gravity with daring artistry at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in Wayne State College’s Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building. Their performance will conclude Wayne State’s 2023-24 Black & Gold Performing Arts Series.

Tickets are required for the performance. To secure tickets, visit www.wsc.edu/performing-arts and select “Purchase Event Tickets.” Tickets are $10 each. Wayne State students, faculty, and staff attend free, but must obtain a ticket using their NUID number on the ticketing website.

The Peking Acrobats’ awe-inspiring feats include maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs, high-tech special effects, trick-cycling, precision tumbling, juggling, somersaulting, and gymnastics. Their unique talent pushes the envelope of human ability through amazing displays of contortion, flexibility, and control. Having dazzled audiences around the world, their superb performances often attract sold-out crowds.

Founded in 1986, the group has appeared on numerous television shows, such as Nickelodeon’s “Unfabulous,” “Ellen’s Really Big Show” hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, and ABC’s “Wide World of Sports.” In 1999, they set a world record on FOX Network’s “Guinness Book Primetime,” precariously balancing six people atop six chairs 21 feet in the air without safety lines. The Peking Acrobats have also appeared in the hit film “Ocean’s Eleven (2001),” as well as with prestigious orchestras, including the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.

The skillful finesse of The Peking Acrobats is rooted in Chinese history and folk art. Custom demands that each generation of acrobats add improvements and embellishments. Because of this time-honored tradition, high honor is conferred upon the acrobats. The Peking Acrobats strive to uphold this rich, ancient tradition, while integrating cutting-edge technology.
