Wayne State’s student-run radio station received a $1,500 Grant Award for equipment and system updates.
Wayne State College’s student-run radio station, KWSC-FM 91.9 The Cat, has received a $1,500 Grant Award from The College Radio Foundation.
“We are very proud to be able to assist KWSC-FM with the continuation of its excellent work with student broadcasters,” said Lori Quicke, executive director of The College Radio Foundation. “We had a record number of applicants this year and the competition was very tough, so KWSC-FM should feel very proud of this achievement.”
According to its website, The College Radio Foundation celebrates and recognizes all forms of student radio (online, cable, carrier current, FM, and AM) as equals. Its mission is to support the activities and continuing operations of all college radio stations in North America. As a registered 501(c)(3) public charity, it raises funds through sponsorship of events such as College Radio Day. This money is then put directly back into the hands of college radio stations in the form of grants, known as The College Radio Grant Program.
The College Radio Grant Program provides deserving college radio stations in need of financial assistance with financial grants. These grants can be used by stations to maintain their functionality as college radio stations through equipment purchases and repairs, covering the cost of licensing, or through continuing education at college radio related conferences. A grant can also be used to help a station with their own promotional events and activities.
“I am honored and humbled to receive this College Radio Foundation Grant Award to do much needed upgrades to KWSC-FM,” said Dr. Sean X. Ahern, associate professor of communication arts at Wayne State. “We are working on replacing our decades-old analog audio boards with industry standard digital boards. This grant will help ensure that Wayne State College students get the best experiential learning experience in Nebraska.”
