Dr. Josh Calkin

The faculty tuba recital, free and open to the public, is at 7:30 p.m. in Ley Theatre.

“Music for Dark Spaces” features Dr. Josh Calkin performing selections for solo tuba or with prerecorded electronic accompaniment at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in Ley Theatre, located in the Brandenburg Building at Wayne State College. The faculty recital is free and open to the public.

It will also be livestreamed. To view the livestream, visit www.wsc.edu/watch-live. The program will be accessible by selecting the event from the Music Events list at www.wsc.edu/music.

Calkin is a professor of music and director of bands at Wayne State.

Repertoire explores darkness through sound. “Journey” by Brian Sadler portrays a haunting odyssey while “ElevenTwelve” by Joanna Ross Hersey delivers the meditative peace of a medieval convent. “The Robots are Taking Over” by Brooke Pierson is an intense adventure with “Triumph of the Demon Gods” by John Stevens depicting a lyrical battle between good and evil. At last, the audience can revel in nature’s grandeur through Neal Corwell’s “New England Reveries.”
