Honors and Recognition
TRiO Student Support Services provides many opportunities for students to be recognized for their academic achievements and involvement at Wayne State College.
Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society
~Gamma Omicron Chapter~
Wayne State became the first college in Nebraska to form a chapter of Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society in March 2002. Nineteen students became charter members of our Gamma Omicron Chapter. Dr. Elbert Saddler, founder of Chi Alpha Epsilon, traveled from Pennsylvania to conduct that ceremony. Since then, many more students have been inducted in the chapter.
Greek letter organizations like Chi Alpha Epsilon value ceremonial tradition. The private induction ceremony provides a memorable, unique experience for members. A public ceremony follows the private ceremony. This is the time when the members are introduced and pinned. Parents, TRiO Student Support Services staff, faculty, and dignitaries of the college are invited to attend.
Membership in Chi Alpha Epsilon is offered to TRiO Student Support Services students who maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA for two consecutive full-time semesters, or three consecutive three-quarter time semesters, or four consecutive half-time semesters. Continued academic success is encouraged by allowing for initiation pin upgrades to ruby, emerald, or diamond, based on semester GPAs of 3.5 or higher. Students who earn a 3.0 cumulative GPA for the first time are recognized at the public ceremony with a Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Roll Certificate.
There are currently more than 100 chapters of Chi Alpha Epsilon across the country. Membership in the society provides students with a strong support system, the opportunity to engage in academic leadership, and a source of professional networking throughout their careers. All TRiO Student Support Services first-year students are invited to attend our annual Freshmen Convocation. Held each January, the Convocation provides an opportunity to recognize the academic accomplishments of freshmen participants during the fall term.
Students earning a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are awarded framed TRiO Student Support Services Freshmen Honor Roll certificates. Students who have earned a grade point average of 2.5 - 2.999 receive framed Honorable Mention certificates.
Upperclass TRiO Student Support Services participants serve as hosts. Members of the Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society conduct the honor ceremony.
