Service-Learning

What if you could make a difference in the community while learning skills you’ll use in your future career? WSC is the perfect setting to do just that, and we call it Service-Learning.

How to Get Involved

There are two types of Service-Learning at WSC.

1. ACADEMIC SERVICE-LEARNING: This type of service integrates servcie in the community with academic study. Faculty design projects based on meeting identified community needs and advancing students' understanding of course content.

2. CO-CURRICULAR SERVICE-LEARNING: Co-curricular service is usually directed under the leadership of student organizations and groups. It meets a community need, but it is not for a specific academic course.

For students: Get information for your service projects, including grant proposal information and supplementary links. Learn More

The Ron Holt Civic Engagement Award

The Ron Holt Civic Engagement Award provides a $500 gift, trophy, and graduation recognition to a graduating Wayne State senior who, while in college, has served as an exemplary role model and contributed to the service ethos of the college campus and community at large. A variety of service and leadership activities are considered but must include at least one Service-Learning academic or co-curricular project, placement, or event.
