President's Holiday Gala
Ramsey Theatre, WSC Campus
Followed by dessert reception hosted by
WSC President and Mrs. Richard Collings
Solo and duo performances by Department of Music faculty and staff members Dr. Elise Gutshall, Philip Pfaltzgraff and Dr. Linda Christensen
The popular program is designed as a fast-paced concert presented in a collage-like atmosphere, highlighting some of the select performing organizations from Wayne State College.
Assembled for an audience of diverse backgrounds and tastes, the concert will include festive works and holiday music by J.S. Bach, Franz Schubert, Chip Davis, Mel Tormé, G.F. Handel and a specially selected sing-along work.
Performances by the WSC Wind Ensemble have been featured at the Nebraska and Iowa Music Educators' Conventions, and the WSC Concert Choir has appeared on the Emmy-nominated Nebraska Public Television special, Holiday Harmonies, as well as in performances with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra.
As the most select vocal ensemble at WSC, the Madrigal Singers continue a 35-year tradition of presenting annual Elizabethan Christmasse Feastes on campus and throughout the region. This group has also performed for the Niobrara Center and K-MEG Television Christmas specials, and recently performed at a major opening at the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha.
For more than 50 years the Wayne State College Black and Gold performing arts series has presented cultural programming to serve the northeast Nebraska region. The 2008-09 series will continue Feb. 18 with New York City’s Aquila Theatre performing Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors.”
