WSC Summer Camps Include Music, Filmmaking, Criminal Justice, Engineering, Nursing, and Athletics

Wayne State is offering a number of both academic and sports camps this summer.

Wayne State College will host a variety of camps this summer that will provide a tremendous opportunity for students to get a taste of a wide range of professional programs of study. The camps are affordable and offer the chance for students of all ages to immerse themselves in music, filmmaking, criminal justice, engineering, nursing, and athletics.

Summer Music Camp

July 29-August 1. The Wayne State College Summer Music Camp is the perfect opportunity to explore musical interests in a fun and positive environment. Attendees will get a variety of experiences while learning from professional musicians who are experts in their fields. In addition to taking unique music courses, the camp will include social activities. You'll get to make friends with others who share your love for music, and you have the option to live on campus during your time here. 

Eligibility and cost: Open to students who will be entering grades 6-12 in the 2019-20 school year, as well as May 2019 high school graduates. Resident campers: $300 (includes meals and housing); commuting campers: $250 (includes meals but no housing).

Filmmakers Workshop

June 17-21. Filmmakers Workshop. A great opportunity to get firsthand experience in filmmaking! Provides an introduction in filmmaking led by WSC professor Dr. Michael White. Designed for teens. Plan, shoot, and edit your own short films. All facets of production will be covered, including: casting, set design, location scouting, lighting, shooting, and editing

Crime Scene Investigation Camp

June 27. CSI Camp features fingerprint identification, evidence collection, blood spatter analysis, mock crime scenes, shoe and tool impressions, and evidence preservation on campus in Wayne State’s new Criminal Justice Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Facility.

Eligibility, times, and cost: Grades 6-8 (must have completed 6th grade), 9-11 a.m. June 27, $50 (T-shirt included). Grades 9-12, Session 1: Noon-2 p.m., Session 2: 2:30-4:30 p.m., both on June 27. $50 per session (T-shirt included).

Engineering Camp

June 17-18. Pathways to Engineering Camp: Harvesting the Wind. Campers will work closely with WSC and UNL faculty and staff, learn and use the engineering process, design and print a biology inspired wind turbine using the latest 3D printing technology, and visit a local wind farm and/or talk with personnel. Brought to you by Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering.

Eligibility, schedule, and cost: Registration is free! Grades 9-12 (may have completed 12th grade). T-shirt included. June 17: 8 a.m. check in at Residence Hall (Pile), June 18: 4:30 p.m. check out of residence hall. On-campus stay includes room and four meals. Students must provide their own sleeping bag, pillow and towel. Commuters: lunch both days.

Nursing Career Camp

July 30-31. Nursing Career Camp brought to you by Wayne State College in partnership with University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Day 1 activities: July 30 - 8:30 a.m. check-in at Bowen residence hall. Learn about the brain and heart with interactive demonstrations.

Day 2 activities: July 31 - 8:15 a.m. check-in at PV Library in the Carhart Science Building. 8:30 a.m. - Depart WSC for UNMC Norfolk Campus (arrive at 9 a.m.). Application of day one activities in the professional nursing role. Use of simulation mannequins and 3D virtual technology. Return to WSC by 4:30 p.m.

Eligibility and cost: Grades 10-12 (may have completed 12th grade). On-campus stay cost: $125 (cost includes a room and four meals). To keep costs low, students must provide their own sleeping bag, pillow and towel. Commuter cost: $100 (cost includes lunch both days). T-shirt included.

Wildcat Athletic Camps

Wayne State hosts a wide variety of sports camps throughout the year. Typically, football, volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball will schedule summer leagues, individual, and team camps in late May and June.
