Three Wayne State College students from the Department of Health, Human Performance and Sport won the Northland Chapter American College of Sports Medicine Quiz Bowl.
Three Wayne State College students from the Department of Health, Human Performance and Sport (HHPS) won the Northland Chapter American College of Sports Medicine (NACSM) Quiz Bowl held Oct. 16-17, 2008, at the 33rd annual Fall NACSM meeting in Duluth, Minn. The team competed in a Jeopardy-style contest against six other teams from the NACSM region (Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota) and brought home two first-place trophies (one permanent and one traveling).
Kelly Brink of Lyons, Neb., Peter Ray of Spalding, Neb., and Darren Richter of Fremont, Neb., the Wayne State winners, will represent the Northland Chapter ACSM in the national Quiz Bowl competition to be held May 27-30 at the 56th annual national ACSM meeting in Seattle. The Northland Chapter, one of 12 regional ACSM Chapters in the United States, will provide financial support for WSC students to participate in this event.
HHPS faculty collaborated to encourage students from the program to attend the Northland Chapter ACSM meeting and to form a Quiz Bowl team to represent Wayne State College.
“We are very proud of our students,” Dr. Donovan S. Conley, professor of exercise science and director of the WSC Human Performance Laboratory said. “Their performance underscores the quality of our faculty and program and lends credence to the notion that you can get anywhere from WSC.”
