Dr. Angela Miller-Niles and Shelly Armstrong perform repertoire written by American female composers.
Repertoire written by American female composers define the Deux Femmes Pianistes concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, in Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building at Wayne State College. The concert is free and open to the public.
The performance features Dr. Angela Miller-Niles, associate professor of piano at Wayne State, and Shelly Armstrong, Wayne State’s collaborative pianist.
The concert will also be livestreamed.
The music, expressly written for two pianos, challenges dexterity, technique, and virtuosic skills. Selections include the brilliant, somber, and lush “Suite for Two Pianos Founded Upon Old Irish Melodies” by Amy Beach; the innovative and experimental “Homage to Cowell, Cage, Crumb and Czerny for Two Pianos” by Emma Lou Diemer; and “Concerto in Three Rhythms” by Dana Suesse, a foxtrot, blues, jazz fusion.
