Geography Honor Society Receives Honors Award for 2024

The Lambda Zeta chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon received the award for the 10th time since 2013.

Gamma Theta Upsilon certificateWayne State College’s Lambda Zeta chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, the international geography honor society, has received an Honors Chapter Award for 2024, marking the tenth time the Wayne State chapter has received the award since 2013.

Criteria for award eligibility includes that chapters must increase the number of new inductees from the previous year or induct two new members; provide leadership for at least two events designed to promote geography during the academic year; and promote geography by submitting a minimum of two posts per year on the Gamma Theta Upsilon International Facebook page.

Gamma Theta Upsilon confers professional distinction on qualified students. Initiates have met academic requirements and share a background and interest in geography. The chapter may also extend honorary membership to anyone whom it feels has, by exploration, research, lecturing, publishing, teaching, or any other way contributed to marked advancement in any phase of geography.

The Lambda Zeta chapter at Wayne State was founded in 2002. Membership is earned through superior scholarship; it is an honor, and a professional distinction.
