2025 Honor Choir Concert Planned for Jan. 31

The treble and mixed choirs will perform at 4 p.m. in Ramsey Theatre.

High school students from Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota will perform at the Wayne State College Festival of Honor Choirs concert at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, in Ramsey Theatre, located in the Peterson Fine Arts Building. Admission is $5 for adults, with free admission for children 12 years of age or under.

The concert will also be livestreamed. To view the livestream, go to www.wsc.edu/watch-live. The program will be accessible by selecting the event from the Music Events list at www.wsc.edu/music.

The concert features a treble choir and mixed choir. Participants were selected based on audition. Throughout the day, students study technique and practice repertoire for the concert.

The treble choir will be conducted by Barina Buresh-Crosland, a Wayne State graduate and current president of the Nebraska Choral Directors Association, with piano accompaniment by Dr. Angela Miller-Niles, professor of piano at Wayne State. Dr. Matthew Armstrong, director of choral activities at Wayne State, will conduct the mixed choir, with piano accompaniment by Shelly Armstrong, Wayne State’s staff accompanist.

Repertoire highlights include the expressive harmonies of “Lunar Lullaby” by Jacob Naverud and the powerful anthem “Freedom Train” by Rollo Dilworth. The concert concludes with the inspirational “Thankful” by David Foster.
