Showcase will be at Johnnie Byrd Brewing Company beginning at 8 p.m.
Wayne State College’s Musical Theatre Directing class will present a showcase of three 10-minute musicals Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Johnnie Byrd Brewing Company in Wayne, with freewill donations at the door. The doors open at 7:30 p.m., and performances begin at 8 p.m.
The musicals are directed by Anna Mayes of Beemer, Neb., and Kyle Hubbell of Le Mars, Iowa. Mayes is a senior majoring in English Language Arts Education, and Hubbell is a junior majoring in Theatre Arts.
Mayes will direct “A Most Average Musical,” the story of a first Friday night at college, expectations of grandeur, disappointment, and friendship. The musical features Wayne State students Ayanna Barragan-Morales of Columbus; Katherine Hutchison of Washingtonville, N.Y.; Reggie Roessler of O'Neill, Neb.; Kore Quimby of Ralston, Neb.; and Josh Monson of Duluth, Minn.
Hubbell will direct “Finding the Words,” a comedy about a final community theatre rehearsal where Fanny and Tony find the courage to express feelings they struggle to put into words. The cast includes Wayne State students Ethan Wibben and Hunter Peardon of Wayne, Neb.; Bre Matzen of Blair, Neb.; Gracie Hinz of Carleton, Neb.; and Macie Ebmeier of North Platte, Neb.
Dr. Melissa Derechailo, instructor of music and theatre manager at Wayne State, and T. Adam Goos, managing director of the Little Red Hen Theatre in Wakefield, will perform “Bittersweet Lullaby,” which is about two struggling songwriters who live in the same apartment decades apart.
