WSC Student Becca Arkfeld Wins Pinnacle Award for 'Best News Story'

WSC student Becca Arkfeld won the Pinnacle Award for Best News Story (college category) during the Nebraska Broadcasters Association’s annual convention Aug. 7.

Wayne State College student Becca Arkfeld of Battle Creek won the Pinnacle Award for Best News Story (college category) during the Nebraska Broadcasters Association’s (NBA) Pinnacle Awards ceremony held Wednesday, Aug. 7. The ceremony was part of NBA’s annual convention.

Arkfeld reported on the temperature in Wayne State’s residence halls during the Fall 2023 semester for KWSC-TV. Arkfeld, a senior at Wayne State, is majoring in electronic media.

"This award is a great representation of the progress being made by KWSC-TV, and really our entire department,” said Pat Janssen, lecturer in Wayne State’s Communication Arts Department. “This was the first TV news package Becca had ever made, and it was a phenomenal effort on her part. She truly represents the level of achievement that is possible with our students. I’m very proud of her and what she has accomplished."

Arkfeld’s radio talent was also on display in the Spring 2024 semester. She was one of several KWSC-FM radio students who participated in a 24-hour livestream fundraiser The livestream raised more than $1,700 for Haven House in Wayne to help survivors of domestic violence.

Arkfeld also received a first-place Golden Leaf Award in the Spring 2024 semester during the Northern Plains Collegiate Media Association’s annual conference. She won the Best Video News Story category.

Arkfeld is a 2021 graduate of Battle Creek High School, and she is the daughter of Rick and Karen Arkfeld of Battle Creek.

The Pinnacle Awards program was established in 1958 to recognize and encourage excellence in broadcasting and service to the community by Nebraska radio and television stations.
