Counselors help people make decisions and take action in their lives. The clinical mental health counseling master's degree program will prepare you to earn your license to provide counseling services in public or private counseling agencies or in a private practice. You'll learn to collaborate with others for the benefit of self, school, community, and the profession through counseling, social justice, and advocacy.
Scholarships Available Through HRSA Grant
Through our $1.1 million HRSA behavioral health workforce grant, funding is available for clinical mental health graduate students until July 2025. Students must be in their final clinical mental health counseling internship by June 2025 to qualify. Contact Dr. Alison Boughn at [email protected] for more details.

Counseling Licensure
The clinical mental health counseling program at Wayne State College is designed to prepare students for licensure or certification in Nebraska. Getting licensed often requires several hours of coursework and internships. If you plan to pursue licensure or certification in a state other than Nebraska, please check that state's licensing board to determine their licensing requirements. Authorization may be required from them prior to beginning a clinical or field experience in that state.

Delivery Method: Course content is delivered in person, synchronous online, and/or asynchronous online. You will take your courses through the low-residency model. This means that associated residency courses meet two weekends per fall and spring semester alongside synchronous online and asynchronous online learning methods. These in-person intensive weekends typically have a schedule of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays with an 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. session Sundays. Location of the residency is the WSC campus in Wayne, Neb.
