Intramurals and Club Sports
From ball games to card games, we have activities for everyone. Whether you are ultra-competitive or joining just to make friends and have fun, our intramurals and club sports programs offer the chance to exercise your body and your mind in a positive environment.
Get Involved with Intramurals and Club Sports
With so many requirements in and out of the classroom, it is important to take time out periodically for recreational pursuits to maintain a healthy balance of work and play. This is a time when you can relax from strenuous school work and the rapid pace of modern living. You'll make social contacts and friendships that may not readily be developed in the classroom. You'll learn the important values developed through team spirit, cooperation, and experience, and the satisfaction of belonging to a group. You'll develop sportsmanship of the highest order. Every individual, regardless of ability, should realize the joy and fun of participation in a favorite sport against good competition.

Release of Liability and Assumption of Risk
In consideration of the Athletics Department at Wayne State College, the signee is granted permission to participate in intramural sports. I do for myself, my heirs, and personal representative(s) agree to defend, hold harmless, indemnify, release, and forever discharge Wayne State College, the Board of Trustees for the Nebraska State Colleges, and all its officers, employees or agents from and against any and all future claims, demands, or causes of actions in law, or in equity or otherwise, on account of damage to personal property, or personal injury, or death which may result from my participation, and which result from causes beyond the control of, and without the fault or negligence of said College, Board, and its officers, employees, or agents during the period of my participation in this activity.
I also agree to observe and abide by all published Wayne State College rules and regulations, which govern participant conduct and responsibilities while participating in this college-sponsored activity. I understand that my failure to do so may result in my dismissal from this activity.
Eligibility
Full-time and part-time Wayne State College undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, and spouses are eligible to participate in the Intramural Sports Program. Members of a varsity program are ineligible to participate in the sport they are currently rostered on unless stated in the rules of a particular sporting event. Junior College lettermen will be eligible for intramural play.
Team Rosters
All team members must be registered on IMLeagues before they are eligible to participate. A team member must have checked in a minimum of two games to be eligible for post season play.
Sportsmanship Rating System
4-Point Rating System
Below will define the 4-point rating system. All teams must maintain an average (3.0) rating to advance into the postseason. If teams repeat poor ratings (2.0 or under), they may be subject to suspensions or disqualifications. The listed criteria is not complete and may be subject to intramural staff’s discretion. All appeals of a poor rating must be submitted to the campus recreation coordinator within 24 hours of notification. An investigation will take place and a conclusion will be made within five class days.
4 - Excellent: Team is positive and respectful toward opponents, teammates, intramural staff, and spectators before, during, and after the contest. Team displays a model performance of true sportsmanship.
3 - Good: Team shows no unsporting behavior and is mostly respectful to the opposing team, intramural staff, and spectators. Players’ actions do not result in a conduct penalty (yellow card, technical foul, or unsportsmanlike conduct penalty).
2 - Poor: Team or player complains, but is not aggressive towards opposing teams, staff, or spectators. Teams that receive one conduct penalty cannot receive higher than a 2.0 rating. Above-average sporting behavior is conducted the remainder of the contest.
1 - Unacceptable: Multiple team members are involved with unsporting actions towards opponents, staff, or spectators. A team that has a member ejected from game cannot receive a grade higher than a 1.0. Also, if a team forfeits their competition, they receive a poor rating.
Team and Player Conduct
Participants and spectators that practice unsportsmanlike behaviors before, during or after contests are subject to disqualification and/or removal from facilities. Examples of unsportsmanlike behaviors include, but not limited to the following:
- Use of profanity
- Vulgar and abusive language
- Disrespectfully addressing or contacting intramural or rec center staff
- Excessive technical or unsporting fouls
- Flagrant and excessive actions directed towards players or officials
- Fighting, attempting to fight, or inciting a fight
- Willful destruction and/or desecration of facility and equipment
Participating in the intramural sports program at Wayne State College is a privilege for all. Students, faculty/staff, and spouses who sign up for intramural sports will abide by the following:
- Treat all WSC intramural and Rec Center staff with respect.
- Respect the rights, welfare, and dignity of teammates, opponents, and spectators before, during, and after sporting contests.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures detailed in this handbook, as well as the NSCS code of conduct policies.
- To refrain from the use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco before and during contests.
Policies and Procedures

- Vulgarity
- Sexually explicit or violent acts
- Discrimination (race, religion, color, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, weight, disabilities, etc.)
Proper Attire: Non-athletic clothing including, but not limited to, jeans, dress pants, dresses, khakis, billed hats, and blouses is prohibited. Athletic attire is typically breathable and loose-fitting to allow a player to safely and effectively perform physical movements.
Cat Card Check-In: Each participant should be prepared to present his or her Cat Card when signing in for each contest.
Inclement Weather: During inclement weather, activities may be delayed, postponed, or cancelled. The safety of players, spectators, and intramural staff is paramount; therefore, the student coordinator reserves the right to cancel or postpone games due to inclement weather. The Campus Recreation Coordinator will inform teams via IMLeagues and social media. Please do not assume that games are cancelled. Students are expected to practice every day outside of class as well as meet with the coach once a week in a 30-minute practice slot. Students of all levels of experience in forensics are welcome!
