What is RHOP?
Rural communities make up a majority of Nebraska. They are the lifeblood of the state and deserve quality medical care. Established and successful for over 25 years, the Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP) is a special cooperative program between Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) to meet that need. As a citizen of rural Nebraska, you've experienced the rural lifestyle, and you know the unique needs of your community. That's why we're recruiting Nebraskans like you - because you're dedicated to your home state and you care about its rural health care needs. We do too. Our program represents that commitment and will prepare you to return to rural Nebraska and care for its citizens.
• Full tuition scholarship at Wayne State College
• Guaranteed admission to UNMC
• Early registration privileges
• Opportunities to visit UNMC during your time at WSC
Alternates for the program receive, at a minimum, a $2,000 renewable scholarship at Wayne State College and early registration privileges. All benefits are contingent upon successfully maintaining and completing the program requirements.
RHOP participants spend time at both WSC and UNMC, with the amount of time at each institution determined by the program.

“RHOP is a great opportunity because it caters to students who live in small-town Nebraska outside of Omaha and Lincoln. The program has a strong partnership with UNMC which made it extremely appealing to me. I chose Wayne State primarily based on the size as well as its health programs. I knew I didn't want to go to a huge school where I was just a face in the crowd, and the relationships that I can build with my professors being in a smaller class have been beneficial to my academic success."”
“As soon as I heard about the Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP), I knew that it was an opportunity to great to pass up. Receiving tuition for an outstanding education while being in moderate class sizes that really allow you to be able to interact with the teachers and fellow class mates is second to none. Another obvious benefit would be that RHOP students are granted automatic admission into medical school immediately following their undergraduate programs versus applicants from other colleges that are not guaranteed a spot and may never receive admission.”

“I wanted to get into RHOP because it offers a great deal to students that want a career in medicine. I took advantage of the opportunity and I feel like I can make the people who selected me proud.”
