Reading and Writing (PK-6)
About
You have a passion for reading and writing. It forms the base of all other learning, and children need guidance in how to do it successfully. The Reading and Writing (PK-6) supplemental endorsement allows you to teach reading and writing to pre-kindergarten through grade 6. Adding this qualification to your education degree will make you an excellent candidate for an elementary teaching job. With a long-standing, excellent reputation for our education program, Wayne State is the perfect place to begin your career in education.
Note: The Reading and Writing (PK-6) supplemental endorsement is not a standalone program. You must also select a field endorsement or two subject endorsements to receive your B.A. or B.S.

Clinical Practice
Before graduating with your degree in to teach reading and writing, you will complete a semester of clinical practice in a school district chosen with the help of your advisor. During this semester, you will work closely with an experienced teacher to gain classroom experience. Internships are not required as part of this program; however, Career Services is available to help students find both internship and employment opportunities.
