Pre-Dental Hygiene Program of Study

There is no substitute for developing a careful course registration plan in consultation with your advisor. The class sequence listed is suggested only. The final decision rests with the student and academic advisor.

  1. A four-year Bachelor of Dental Hygiene degree program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Dentistry, in Lincoln, Neb., consists of two parts, i.e. two years of academic coursework at Wayne State College and, if selected, two years at the College of Dentistry.
  2. A minimum of 63 hours of pre-professional coursework and all courses listed below are required for admission to UNMC. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for consideration for admission.
  3. Completion of academic/pre-professional curriculum at Wayne State College is not a guarantee for admission to the Dental Hygiene program.

**Students must elect one 12-hour series in one specific area of study, i.e. humanities, social sciences, or English. All courses in the 12-hour series must have the same prefix.

Example of a 12-hour series:

  1. PSY 101, PSY 230, 316, 345, (PSY 101 may be included in the minor).
  2. ART 110, 210, 310, 330.
  3. 24 total hours in biology will also satisfy the minor requirement.

Mathematics: UNMC does not require a college math course if you have had two years of high school algebra and one year of high school geometry. Math by advisement if ACT score is below 20.
