Sample Program of Study - Pre-Dental Hygiene

The following reflects a two-year plan for UNMC College of Dentistry. Please check the admission requriements for your desired institution.

  1. A four-year Bachelor of Dental Hygiene degree program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Dentistry, in Lincoln, consists of two parts, i.e. two years of academic course work at Wayne State College and, if selected, two years at the College of Dentistry.
  2. A minimum of 63 hours of pre-professional course work and all courses listed below are required for admission to UNMC. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for consideration for admission.
  3. Completion of academic/pre-professional curriculum at Wayne State College is not a guarantee for admission to the Dental Hygiene program.

*Students must elect one 12-hour series in one specific area of study, i.e. Humanities, Social Sciences or English. All courses in the 12-hour series must have the same prefix.

**Examples of social science electives: sociology, economics, political science, geography.

+Examples of Arts and Humanities electives: English Literature, Philosophy, Art History, or Drawing.

Example of a 12-hour series:

  1. PSY 101, PSY 230, 316, 345, (PSY 101 may be included in the minor).
  2. ART 110, 210, 310, 3303.
  3. Twenty-four total hours in biology will also satisfy the minor requirement.

Mathematics: UNMC does not require a college math course if you have had two years of high school algebra and one year of high school geometry. Math by advisement if ACT score is below 20.
